Details Rejoice in the early days of motorsport with this special 1940s racing helmet. |
History Before corporate sponsorship took over race car liveries in the late 1960’s, teams would race in their country’s traditional colours. For British entrants, that colour was a dark shade of green. This originated from the 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup, held in Ireland (which was at the time part of the UK), as motor-racing was illegal in England. As a mark of respect, the British cars were painted in green. On a number of occasions, racing drivers would also sport a matching helmet to go with their cars. |
