Looking for some classic, old school F1 memorabilia? Then this is for you. Marc Surer’s beautiful, Swiss inspired Formula 1 crash helmet. 

Description

For the majority of Surer’s career, the Arisdorf native competed with a helmet design sporting the colours of the Swiss national flag – a red base with white racing stripes. The Arrows driver also had his name on opposite sides of the helmet in an iconic sports incline font.

History

Marc Surer graduated to Formula 1 in 1979 after winning the FIA Formula 2 championship with BMW and across a span of eight years raced for several different teams including Ensign, Brabham, Theodore, ATS and Arrows. Whilst never managing to stand on a Formula 1 podium, the Swiss racer scored points in the majority of his F1 seasons despite not having the fastest car on the grid.

This particular helmet is from the 1983 Formula 1 season in which he raced for the British Arrows team. That season, Surer recorded four points finishes with a season best fifth place at the United States Grand Prix.
