History

Hesketh was one of the most popular Formula 1 teams during the 1970's. Founded by Lord Alexander Hesketh, the team was built around the talents of two individuals, their deigner Dr. Harvey Postlethwaite and their lead driver, James Hunt.

Lord Hesketh created an image for his team as one of the more fun and glamorous outfits of the sport and projected the image of himself as an aristocratic dilettante. The team was even reported to have once added a Grand Piano to it's race weekend cargo.

The team ran from 1973 to 1978 with James Hunt taking a fairytale Grand Prix win at the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix, a race in which Hunt was driving a new car designed by Postlethwaite. Eventually though, with no commercial backers, Hunt and Postlethwaite were released from the team and Lord Hesketh ran pay-drivers for. couple more reasons before pulling out of the sport.
